Painting Horses and Dogs For Relaxation

There is nothing better to relax after two night's out in a row gigging (my other job is as a Bass Player!) than doing some painting. When I'm not working on a pet portrait commission, I like to paint from photos that I have taken myself that appeal to me, and those paintings go up for sale.

Whenever I do a photo shoot for pet portrait commissions, I take many shots and keep these to use to create paintings for sale. The painting of the Grey Arab below was from a photo shoot for a horse portrait and afterwards he was running loose in the field so I continued to snap away! I have painted this particular horse "Khruga" quite a few times as he is a favourite subject of mine! His owner has quite a few of them in her own collection as well as his portrait! Likewise with the West Highland Terrier painting, I took photos for a dog portrait commission and took plenty of him too.

With the arrival and improvement of phone cameras, I do far less photoshoots than I used to due to photos being far more easy for pet owners to take themselves and send to me by email. Over the years I have painted most of my favourite subjects so soon I'm going to have to go out and take some more!
